March 16th 2023 server update!

Welp, here we are! Another Third Thursday wipe! As always, the server will wipe at 2pm EST with the server going offline around 1pm so I can prep it.

We’ll be running another customized procedurally generated map this wipe. If you’ve been watching the Map Update Preview channel in Discord, you’ve seen some of what is to come. There’s some of the old monuments I’ve used before and some new ones. For example, we will have the Airshop Docks. This consists of a dock for airships as well as several airships waiting to dock. These airships have scientists, loot and keycard puzzles. You can think of it as an event that is always running. The Temple of the Pookie is also a new one, sort of. This temple was on the server many months ago but it was not the Temple of the Pookie. There’s NPC’s and loot to find here, and of course a chance to worship the mighty Pookie God. The Cobalt PD is making an appearance again this wipe but instead of a Bradley guarding it, there will be police NPC’s! Lastly, there’s a second public heli tower on the map, but this one is in the ocean. When you shoot down the heli, NPC’s won’t parachute out. The wreckage of the heli and it’s loot will sink to the ocean floor. I recommend bringing a sub and diving gear to get it!

This wipe the Skill Tree XP will wipe and the BP’s will remain until the first Thursday of April. This month is also a 5 Thursday month, so the last week of the month will be a special 1 week wipe with a special map, but more on that when the time comes. Our events for this wipe will include Arctic, Airfield, Armored Train, Cobalt Lab and Heli Refuel. It is possible others might be added, but I will decide that as I’m setting up the server.

I hope everyone enjoys the new map. It should be a good wipe, as there’s no Rust update until the first Thursday of April, so it’s unlikely anything will get jacked up this wipe. I’ll see you on the server!

Medical Items

The Medical Items plugin adds two items to the game: A Defib and a Medical Box. Both can be found in loot boxes in the world. In order to craft these items, you must first find one, then research it at a Research Bench. When you open a T2 or T3 workbench, you will see a new button that says “Medical Items”. That’s where the crafting menu is for these two items.

The defibrillator can do 2 things:

  • Recover a player from a wounded state immediately, with a risk of the defibrillator breaking (default: 10% chance), removing any bleeding effects that the target has and bringing them back on 10hp.
  • Resurrect a dead player, spawning them back at the position of their body, but breaking the defibrillator. The player spawns a “new” body, and must still loot their items.

The medical box is a deployable, reskinned, wooden box that heals any player within x metres for x amount of health per every x seconds, x amount of times.

For example, using the default values, the box will heal any player within 5m for 20 health every 3 seconds, for a maximum of 10 times.

March 3rd Update

Wipe day is upon us! Today is the first Thursday of the month, so that means that Facepunch will be releasing an update to Rust, which is sure to break things. RF detonated C4 and drones are here! What a time to be alive! A breakdown of what to expect can be found on the Rusticated website (https://www.rustafied.com/). I fully expect plugins not to work and general shenanigans to be present due to the wipe. I will do my base to be around to squash any bugs that I find and to update plugins as they are released.

This wipe, we’ll be running the following events: Convoy, Harbor, Space, Junkyard and Guarded Crate. The map will be a customized procedurally generated map, size 5000. If you’ve been checking out the Update Preview channel in Discord, you’ve already seen some of the stuff we’ve got on the server. I also double and triple checked the public heli tower to be sure the no-build zone is working.

As per the discussion in Discord, we’ll be adjusting the MLRS raid skill so that it can be used once every 10 minutes. I will be testing out a plugin that limits the number of horses you can own. This plugin will restrict those horses to 8. I will also be removing horses in the wild, as those can not be “owned” even if you put a code lock on one. This step is necessary because it’s been proved that having too many horses in one location can lag some players. Before I received my new computer, there was one base where my FPS would go into the single digits due to the number of horses. One more change I will be making is the disabling of the command to turn a player’s base into a raidable base out of fear of people griefing other players with it. Should a player wish to have their base converted to a raidable base, they will need to put in a support ticket to request it.

I believe that’s all the news for this wipe! Have fun!

Cobalt Police Department

The Cobalt Police Department is a monument that might be on a custom proc gen map. A Greenroom, Blueroom and double Redroom Monument gives the Player a new Puzzle to explore in Rust. Combined with a Codelock Puzzle its not like “swipe card and run” – they need to run, they need to explore, find hidden switches and rooms and finally get to the Boss Room of “Project K4H0s”.

Here is a video by the dev of the monument:

Mid-February 2023 News

Hello everyone and WELCOME to the mid-February 2023 wipe! Today we’ll be wiping the server at 2pm EDT. Included in this wipe is the Skill Tree XP. The BP’s won’t wipe until the first Thursday of March and that cycle will continue from now on.

The new map is a customized procedurally generated map, size 4500, with all of the standard monuments along with some custom ones. If you’ve been watching the map update preview channel in Discord, you’ve already seen some of those monuments! Our events will include some old favorites and some new ones. These events will be listed prior to the wipe. We may have some additional plugins added to the server.

I plan on creating a new player hub on the server this wipe. It will be a place relatively close to most spawns that will have everything a new player needs; workbenches, recyclers, furnaces, etc. It will also have a hotel where players can rent a room for 5 scrap per night. Each room will have a bed and a box to store personal items in. To renew your stay, you’ll go to the hotel clerk NPC in the lobby. If you outstay your welcome, any loot you’ve stored away in there will go bye-bye so make sure you pay for your room or get your stuff out.

There’s not much else going on for this wipe. The next Rust update isn’t for 2 more weeks so this should be a relatively easy one for us.

Box Sorter Light

Box sorter makes housekeeping easier in multiple ways

  • An intuitive interface that is visible while looting boxes allowing players to select its category.
  • The selected category is displayed both by changing the skin of the box and by displaying the category while looting.
  • Two carefully placed buttons enables quick moving of category items and sorting of items already in the container.

Food is always default category for refrigerators and independent of its skin

To use this, first open a box.

Under the box inventory, you’ll see “Box Sorting”. Depending on your UI settings on the server, you may have the Skill Tree XP bar here or the Backpack icon here. I recommend you turn those off with /togglexphud command (Skill Tree) or /backpackgui (Backpacks). The XP bar can be moved to another place on the screen with the /movebar command. To designate a box for one specific category, such as weapons or clothing, click on the respective button. The box will be reskinned to a category specific skin.

You will notice the category name is now in the Box Sorting UI and the box has been reskinned. To move only the items in that category to the box, press the arrow in the top right of the inventory UI, next to the new Sort button. This will put all items of that category into the box. Note: You can manually put anything you want into the box.

You can use the new Sort button to sort the contents of the box or you can use the old Sort button that is in the container’s UI. Both work.

If you use /remove on the box, it loses it’s category, but you can deploy it again and reselect the category. The category can be changed at any time by clicking on the current Category name in the Box Sorting UI.

February 2023 News

Hello everyone and welcome to the February 2023 Rusty Old Gamers news! This is the first time I’m using the website to publish our news. It’s a better platform for one way communications with the community, as it gives me more flexibility in my post than Discord does.

The next wipe/Rust update is Thursday February 2nd at 2pm EST. Facepunch will release a patch at that time. This patch is expected to be a big one, which introduces new features. It is very likely that some plugins will have some issues when the patch comes out. I will try to be on as much as possible after the wipe to keep up on any issues.

The map for this wipe is Gravis Island (https://lone.design/product/gravis-island/). This map was featured in the official Rust Community Blog and hosted on many official Rust servers. It’s on the small size, being only 3700km compared to the normal 4800 – 5000 km map we usually run. It has an assortment of custom monuments along with the standard Rust monuments.

I am not planning anything game changing this wipe. The events will be decided the day of the wipe. The only thing of significance that will change is the wiping of blue prints and skill tree XP. This wipe we’ll wipe blue prints on February 2nd and on February 16th, we’ll wipe Skill Tree XP. From that point forward, we’ll continue that alternating wipe schedule. This way, both will still wipe monthly, just at different times.

I am continuously working on updating the website, adding new guides for our plugin as time allows. If you have any plugin you’d specifically like to see featured, please send me a message. That’s it for now! See you on Gravis Island!

Virtual Quarries

Virtual Quarries plugin (https://codefling.com/plugins/virtual-quarries) is a large upgrade to quarries in RUST. You can create and place quarry that will dig any type of resource and access them all over the map! VQ’s work as follow:

Buy or craft a quarry and several survey charges. You will need 1 survey charge for each attempt to find the resources you want to mine. Next, type /vq to open the Virtual Quarries menu. Press the + symbol.

On the next page, click on the Search button. One Survey Charge will be used. You may or may not uncover resources. If you are happy with the resources you found, continue to the next step. If not, continue pressing Search until you’ve found what you want or until you are out of Survey Charges. When you found what you want, click on the Place button as seen below.

Once that is done, you’ll be brought to a screen like the one below where you can put fuel in your VQ and start/stop/delete it.

Bag of Holding

The Bag of Holding plugin (https://lone.design/product/bag-of-holding-rust-plugin/) spawns special bags that start off with the ability to store specific categories of items in each bag. For example, you may find an XXSmall Weapons and Ammo bag. In this bag you could only put, naturally, weapons and ammo. Bag of Holding can be upgraded using scrap. If you upgrade a bag enough, you can put anything in the bag. You are no longer restricted to the category of the bag. Bags of Holding spawn randomly in loot containers.
